Katie Pilkington

Corporal John Pilkington has served in the RAF since 1986 and is married with five children, the youngest of whom, Katie, suffers from Stage three high-risk Neuroblastoma, a cancer in the adrenal glands.

John and his wife Susan were struggling to juggle the demands of Katie’s hospital visits and caring for their other four children at the same time. The costs mounted each day and the routine was exhausting.

Then John decided to contact the RAF Benevolent Fund. We agreed to cover the urgent financial needs the Pilkingtons were facing and also to ensure that they had a good Christmas in 2008. The family was overjoyed.

“The RAFBF’s help made an enormous difference,” said John. “We’ve managed to have a nice relaxing Christmas without worrying about the costs that were piling up as a result of Katie’s treatment, which means we can concentrate on getting her better.”
