David Holmes

David Holmes served in the RAF for twenty years, beginning his career as a mechanic and leaving as a Chief Technician. While he was still serving he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, and as time went by he experienced increasing difficulty with his hands and using computers.

While David was in hospital being treated for pain, he spoke to his occupational therapist about this problem, and she asked if he had considered using Voice Recognition Software. David had considered it far too expensive, but she suggested getting in touch with the RAF Benevolent Fund to see if he was eligible for financial assistance.

After examining David’s case, we provided a grant so that he could purchase the software he needed.

“The help of the RAFBF has transformed my life,” said David. “This software allows me to work freely and live as independent a life as possible.”
