Gordon Broadley

Gordon left the RAF in 1987. Then, in 2002, he and his wife discovered that their son Lewis suffered from a rare, life-limiting condition – Sanfilippo disease – which would make caring for him a full time job. To begin with, they would have to have their home completely altered in order to make it possible for Lewis to live there – for months they were forced to carry him up and down the stairs.

The Broadleys raised a huge amount through their own fundraising in the community but were still falling short of the quote they received for the necessary adaptations. It was then that they contacted the RAF Benevolent Fund. After examining their case, we issued an award for all the money still needed to finish the adaptations.

In this video Gordon describes how the RAFBF helped.
