Ali Pearce

Interview with Ali's mother, Vonnie (mp3):

Tom Pearce served in the RAF from 1970 to 1972 as a ground technician. After leaving the Service he and his wife adopted Ali, a girl who was born with severe heart problems and Down Syndrome.

As Ali grew older the family became increasingly concerned about her limited mobility. Ali, a keen photographer, was finding the restrictions on her movements frustrating, so the family decided to seek funding for a motorized wheelchair.

At this point the family contacted the RAF Benevolent Fund. After examining Ali’s case, we issued a grant to cover the cost of an electric wheelchair.

Tom said:

“The help the RAFBF provided has been amazing. Ali now is so much more independent than she was before and can lead her own life, focusing her tremendous energy on her photography. We really are extremely grateful for all the assistance we received from the RAF Benevolent Fund.”
