A team of four Service personnel from RAF Odiham raised over £2000 by completing an incredible fundraising journey to Timbuktu, in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund and Help for Heroes charities. Driving a Ford Maverick and an ambulance, the team crossed the continent of Africa and donated their ambulance to a local hospital in Mali, auctioning their other vehicle in aid of local charities.

The team consisted of three men, (Leigh, John and Jock) who are all Chinook helicopter Air Frame Technicians, and one woman (Naomi) who is an Air Traffic Controller. They are all based at RAF Odiham.

Leigh Joyce, team member, said he was “dumbfounded” by the reception they received from local people.

“We only thought ten or twenty people would be there when we dropped off the ambulance,” said Leigh, “but in the end the whole village turned out! It really was an amazing experience.”
