The David Sale Memorial Challenge

The David Sale Memorial Challenge was set up by family and friends of Flt Lt David Sale, who was tragically killed in a helicopter crash while on exercise in August 2007. The challenge raised a total of £40,000, split between the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Great North Air Ambulance.

The challenge was based around the places that mattered most to David during his short but active life and included a Hockey game against a Durham County Squad, a one mile swim in the River Tees, a 350 mile bicycle ride to Oxford, and a half marathon into RAF Benson. A Dinner and Auction was held in London after the challenge.

David’s brother Tom said:

“We felt that a testing challenge like this would be a fitting way to remember David, as he loved sport throughout his life. We also decided to raise funds for the RAFBF, after the fantastic help they gave my parents in the aftermath of David’s crash.”
