Cottesmore 7 Cycling Challenge

Seven engineers from RAF Cottesmore and RAF Wittering set out on a testing cycling challenge in September, riding from Lands End to John O’Groats in only nine days. The team, many of whom toured Afghanistan with the RAF’s Harrier force, raised money for the RAF Benevolent Fund along the way.

The “Cottesmore Seven” set out from Lands End on Monday 28th September 2009 and took in stops at Princetown, Bristol, Telford, Preston, Carlisle, Ayr, Argyll and Inverness, cycling for about 100 miles at a time. SAC Gary Sparkes, team member, said:

“This was a really testing challenge for us and we were all in training every spare minute we had before the challenge. We really wanted to raise as much money as possible for the RAF Benevolent Fund, our chosen charity. It’s a really worthy cause - any one of us might need their help some day.”
