RAF Halton Squash Marathon

Service personnel, families and civilians took part in a 24-hr Squash Marathon at RAF Halton on 1st October 2009 to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund. The event, which saw those involved train, practice and play games all day and night, raised £650.

A core team of players provided coaching and match practice over the whole marathon, and were later joined by top international player Tom Phipps, who provided tips on routines. At 0815, on the morning of 2nd October, the players were greeted by Air Marshal Simon Bryant, the President of the RAF Squash Racquets Association, who then played each player in a final knock-out round of matches.

Air Marshal Bryant said:

“I was delighted, not only by the efforts of the individuals who undertook to complete the Marathon, and the number of players who participated, but also by the generosity of the donations, for a very worthy cause: the RAF Benevolent Fund.”
